Library

The Darien Library maintains a genealogical collection by a sign that reads "Genealogy" in the far right hand corner of the Research Room on the second floor. Included in this collection are books donated by The Middlesex Genealogical Society. In 2017, MGS sold some of its lesser-used books and donated a number of books to three Connecticut libraries with more specialized collections: Ferguson Library in Stamford, Bridgeport Public Library, and Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown. See: MGS Book Distribution List and MGS Books For Sale.

The Darien Library has a number of on-line genealogical resources in addition to its book collection: Genealogy Resources of the Darien Library, including

  • Ancestry.com - Free at Darien and many other libraries, this premiere genealogy database is ideal for the family historian. Ancestry Library Edition provides the most genealogical information available on-line, with more than 5 billion names in over 4,000 collections.
  • FamilySearch.org - Free at home and at Darien Library, provides access to genealogical records gathered from all over the world.

The Darien Library has a subscription to American Ancestors magazine in the Genealogy section. It is published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society four times a year.

The Society publishes a quarterly Newsletter and has from time to time issued its own Publications.

Volunteers are available, by appointment, to help with research problems, or just to get you started.

The Middlesex Genealogical Society holds five Saturday afternoon meetings a year. Meetings start at 2:00 pm. Speakers make presentations on various topics of interest in genealogy. Some meetings are Virtual, but most are In-person. In-person meetings are sponsored in conjunction with the Darien Library. In-person meetings are free and open to the public. They are held in the Darien Library Community Room.
